Leckford Estate's New Waitrose Farm Shop
26th February 2014
The new Oak framed Farm Shop which opened in August 2013, was designed and built by Oakland Vale Ltd (approved contractors for John Lewis/Waitrose group), with the Oak frame provided by T J Crump Oakwrights Ltd. The new building houses a Farmshop, a Cafeteria and an Education Facility, and it is located within the Longstock Park Nursery, which is part of the Leckford Estate in Hampshire. “Longstock Park Nursery, part of the Leckford Estate owned and managed by Waitrose, lies within Hampshire's picturesque Test Valley. The nursery is set in and around a brick and flint walled garden, and is home to National Collections of Buddleja and Clematis Viticella and the Gilchrist Collection of Penstemon.”
When Oakland Vale became involved in the project planning permission had already been gained for a Farm Shop at the Nursery. Our design brief was to develop the scheme to one of a more agricultural nature, sympathetic and befitting its rural location. Working with TJ Crump Oakwrights of Hereford, the specialist Oak frame company which we are fortunate enough to partner with on the builds, the main structure accommodating the Farm Shop and Cafeteria was designed incorporating a splendid fully vaulted Green Oak Frame. The main barn style entrance is also formed in Green Oak leading to an impressive Cruck frame arrangement internally.
